They're like so in love
Unless you've been hiding under a rock, plugging your ears and pretending they don't exist, you've seen or heard about Kimye's appearance on the cover of Vogue.
For those late to the party, or who never RSVP'd because why would anyone want to celebrate such a thing, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West graced (disgraced?) the newest cover of the iconic fashion mag wearing a wedding dress and tux.
Some celebrities are mad, some took the bait and made a fantastic parody, but despite the backlash, Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is sticking by her decision.
They are the love-to-hate couple of the moment. Kanye may be one hit single short of trying to run for president and Kim is famous for less-than-admirable reasons, but it's pretty clear they're in love. So certainly there are some things we can learn from this match. You might have to swallow a little pride but stick with me on this. Consider what follows the silver lining of Kimye, or, platinum lining, as they would probably have it.
Perhaps the most obvious lesson these two teach is to ignore your haters. There is no level of ridiculousness these two are afraid of, naysayers be damned. They named their daughter North West, they shot a topless music video on a motorcycle, and they don't seem to care what anyone thinks. This is great relationship advice, especially when your love is the kind of love that makes people say, "What?"
Further proof that their ignorance is bliss: In the Vogue article, Kim talks about dressing her daughter up, commenting, "I put Kanye's big chains around her, and I put a little Louis bag and some Jordans, and I was like, 'What up, Daddy?'" Bless her heart.
Another nugget of wisdom we can glean is that flattery will get you everywhere. Kanye is famous for making outrageous claims about Kim's talent and beauty. A favorite? "It's an unfair level of awesomeness in one person to be that smart, to be that nice to be . . . blatantly fine as hell. Like, one of the most beautiful people of all time." Speaking highly of the person you're with is a tried and true way to strengthen a relationship. Point for Kimye.
Amid the bling and the paparazzi flashes hides a more subtle relationship tip. These two fashion fiends never leave the house without some serious sartorial strategy: sometimes their outfits match, sometimes they complement the other's outfit with an all-black or all-white look, and sometimes they're just blatantly abusing a trend. But I take their shared love of fashion as the commoners' equivalent of loving the same kinds of books or playing tennis together.
Finally, Kimye proves that a long-term relationship doesn't always have to devolve into sweatpants and Netflix. In Vogue, Kim says, of Kanye, "Literally, he is the most romantic person I've ever even heard of." And we all know if a girl says 'literally,' that's exactly what it means. What better way to close than with a final quote from Kanye himself on his relationship with Kim: "I felt like our love story is like, a love story for the ages. I felt like when we first got together, it was like a Romeo and Juliet kind of thing, where it's like … she's a reality star, and I'm a rapper." Quick, nobody tell Kanye how Romeo and Juliet ends.
